sure and certain evidence that you should do this." ~Clive Barker~
My involvement with Body Modification practices and culture goes back nearly 35 years, beginning with my early experiments with piercing, scarification, and pocketing, resulting from exposure to such practices via programing such as National Geographic. This keen fascination continued apace, resulting in studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where I focused much of my intent on Religious Studies and Cultural Anthropology, with an eye toward body modification in various cultures.
Upon graduation, I became deeply involved, spiritually, in the practice of Wicca, eventually becoming a Third-Degree Witch in the Majestic tradition. Around the same time, I discovered that my interests in body modification and associated practices were shared by many worldwide (through independent research and intense involvement with the Body Modification E-Zine (BME) community). I endeavored to modify myself in as many ways as possible and to experience as many of the body modification practices as possible, amassing many piercings, tattoos, cuttings, flesh removals, etc., and getting involved with suspensions through events such as ONE and private events. My interest in body modification extended into hosting the Southern California BME BBQ for 13 consecutive years, helping to facilitate pulls for nearly 100 people over time and providing a forum for body modification enthusiasts to meet and share ideas. In addition, I am currently a practicing Minister for the Church of Body Modification, helping people in our community to unite their bodies, minds, and spirits through body modification ritual. Under the tutelage of various professionals and involvement with Stay Classy Suspensions, I am in the process of learning even more about suspension and flesh pull techniques, practices, history, and protocols. |
